Storm season in Bryant, Arkansas runs from roughly March through June — and it runs hard. This stretch of the calendar is when Saline County sees the bulk of its annual tornado warnings, severe thunderstorms, hail events, and straight-line wind damage. Being prepared before the first severe weather outbreak of the season is the difference between a roof that rides out a storm intact and one that needs emergency tarping at midnight.
Our team at Lifetime Construction Builders LLC is headquartered at 3519 Market Place Avenue in Bryant. When a storm hits Saline County, we’re already here — we don’t drive in from Little Rock or Benton after the fact. That proximity means we can respond to storm calls within hours, not days. But a fast response after damage is still far less ideal than proper preparation beforehand. This is our pre-season checklist for Bryant homeowners.
Understanding Bryant’s Storm Season Timeline
Central Arkansas severe weather follows a fairly consistent seasonal pattern:
- March-April — First severe weather outbreaks of the season. Often the most intense — atmospheric instability peaks when warm Gulf moisture collides with late-winter cold fronts. This period produces the majority of Arkansas tornadoes annually.
- May-June — Continued storm activity, often with more frequent hail events as temperatures rise. Hail is most common in May across Saline County.
- July-August — Intense afternoon thunderstorms become the primary threat. These are typically faster-moving with less tornado risk but can produce damaging wind gusts and brief but intense rainfall.
- September-October — Secondary storm season, less intense but significant. Tropical remnants occasionally track through Arkansas from the Gulf Coast.
The February-March transition is the ideal time to inspect your roof before peak season. Any deficiencies discovered in late February can be repaired before March’s first potential severe weather event.
Pre-Season Roof Inspection Checklist
A thorough pre-season inspection catches problems when they’re easy to fix — not when they’re emergency situations during a storm. Walk around your home in good weather and look for:
Shingle Condition
- Missing shingles or visible bare deck areas — address immediately
- Curled or lifted shingle edges — seal strips may have failed; wind can grab these
- Cracked or damaged ridge cap shingles — highest wind exposure point on the roof
- Granule accumulation in gutters — heavy granule loss indicates accelerated aging
Flashing and Transitions
- Chimney flashing — check for gaps between flashing and chimney mortar
- Pipe boot flashings — rubber boots crack over time in UV; check for cracks at the base
- Valley flashing — debris accumulation in valleys can back water up under shingles
Gutters and Drainage
- Clear gutters and downspouts of debris before storm season — backed-up gutters force water under eave shingles
- Check gutter attachment points — gutters pulling away from the fascia are a sign of fascia rot or inadequate fastening
- Verify downspouts extend water away from the foundation
Attic and Interior Indicators
- Check attic for any water staining on decking or rafters — carries over from winter moisture events
- Look for daylight through the roof deck in the attic — any pinhole is a vulnerability
- Verify attic ventilation is unobstructed — heat buildup degrades shingles from below
Schedule a professional roof inspection if you identify any of these issues, or if you’re unsure about your roof’s condition going into storm season. Our team provides pre-season inspections specifically for Bryant and Saline County homeowners.
Emergency Preparedness: Have a Plan Before the Storm
Know Your Emergency Contacts
Before storm season, save our number in your phone: (501) 307-1440. When damage happens, homeowners who call immediately get the fastest response. As a Bryant-based contractor, we’re already in the area — but our schedule fills quickly after major storm events.
Understand Emergency Tarping
If a storm leaves your roof with missing shingles, a branch puncture, or significant damage, emergency tarping is the immediate response. A proper tarp installation prevents water infiltration while the insurance claim process proceeds — protecting your home from secondary damage that complicates claims and increases costs.
Emergency tarping costs are typically covered under your homeowners policy’s “mitigation of loss” provision. Our team documents the installation fully for your insurance file.
Document Your Roof’s Current Condition
Before storm season, take date-stamped photographs of your roof from all four sides. These “before” photos establish pre-storm baseline condition and are valuable evidence if you file an insurance claim. Store them in cloud backup so they’re accessible even if your devices are damaged.
Insurance Preparation Before Storm Season
Pre-season is the right time to review your homeowners policy:
- Verify your coverage type — RCV (replacement cost value) or ACV (actual cash value)? The difference significantly affects claim payouts.
- Know your wind/hail deductible — Many Arkansas policies have separate wind/hail deductibles of 1-2% of dwelling coverage. Know your number before you need it.
- Review named perils — Confirm your policy covers the threats Bryant faces: wind, hail, and tornado damage.
If you’re considering upgrading to impact-resistant shingles, do it before storm season — not after. Many Arkansas insurers offer 10-25% premium discounts for Class 3 or 4 certified shingles, and installation before the season means you’re protected for the worst of it. Our insurance claim assistance team can walk you through the discount documentation process.
What to Do Immediately After a Storm
If a storm hits and you’re concerned about your roof:
- Stay safe — don’t get on the roof while there’s lightning, saturated surfaces, or structural uncertainty
- Document from ground level immediately — date-stamped photos of any visible damage
- Check gutters and downspouts for granule accumulation
- Look for ceiling stains or active drips inside
- Call us at (501) 307-1440 for a rapid assessment and emergency tarping if needed
- Report the claim to your insurer — but document first
Our storm damage repair team is local, licensed (AR #RR0540591024), and fully insured. We respond rapidly to Bryant and Saline County because we live and work here. Don’t wait for out-of-state contractors to arrive after a major storm — by then, the secondary damage has already accumulated.
The Advantage of a Local Bryant Contractor
After a major storm event, Bryant and surrounding Saline County see an influx of out-of-state roofing contractors. Many are unlicensed. Most will leave the area when the work dries up. Choosing a locally based, licensed contractor who has deep roots in this community isn’t just about storm work — it’s about having someone accountable when a warranty issue appears two years later.
Lifetime Construction Builders LLC has served Bryant homeowners since 2009. We’re here before the storm, during it, and long after. Call us to schedule your pre-season inspection: (501) 307-1440.
Getting Here from Bryant High School
From Bryant High School on AR-5 (Hilldale Road), take AR-5 north toward the I-30 interchange — it’s a straight shot of about 2 miles. At the I-30 overpass, take the frontage road east to Market Place Avenue and turn right heading south. Our office at 3519 Market Place Avenue will be on your left within a quarter mile, just south of the interchange on the east side of the road. The drive from the high school takes about 4 minutes in normal traffic. If you prefer taking Congo Road over to Alcoa Road, that route adds a minute but avoids the I-30 ramp. Call us at (501) 307-1440 if you need any help navigating.
